LCA member Nina, who has worked across nearly a dozen departments in her nursing career, was often in COVID positive rooms for five or more hours at a time through the height of the 2020 pandemic. Even as a front-line worker, she had never experienced anything as traumatic as her own ICU visits: “By the forth time, my feet and legs were mottled and I was completely gray. I couldn’t move,” she recalls. “It feels like,” - now, three years in - “no one really cares how the pandemic has affected our lives.” Since 2020, healthcare and front-line workers have faced disproportionately high levels of attrition, burnout, suicide, and financial stress, with as many as 25% now experiencing Long COVID or associated conditions.
